Default Should All These Lights Be On?

I have owned my 2006 A4 Quattro 2.0T - my first Audi - for only six weeks. The light switch on my dash has three positions: off, parking lights and headlights. My car does not have the automatic lighting option. I have noticed that with the car running and the switch turned off my front parking lights, front fog lights and the round amber lights just outboard of the lowbeam headlights are all on, as are my tail-lights. Moving the light switch from "off" to "parking lights" seems to change nothing. Moving the switch to "headlights on" brings the headlights on and turns the fog lights off, with the parking lights, the round amber lights and the tail lights all remaining on.

Is what I am describing normal, or do I have a faulty light switch or relay? I believe that here in Canada the fog lights fulfill the function of Daytime Running Lights, so I can understand them being on when the switch is off, however it seems strange to me that the little front parking lights and amber front signal lights, as well as my tail-lights, are also on when my light switch is turned off. Can anyone shed some light on what is going on here?

Thanks.

That's normal behavior.

Yes, it's normal. I have the same setup in my 04 A4 and I was confused as well. Audi, makes the most confusing headlight switch in the world. Just an FYI, if you want your fog lights on and your headlights on you need to turn the switch into the on position and then pull it out one click.

Thanks, guys. Seem to be a lot of unnecessary illumination for daytime driving. I'll be curious to see, over the next year, how often I'll be replacing burnt-out bulbs!

No need to worry, All the interior illumination works fine after 7 yrs of ownership (2002 model B6 A4). Just replace the first burnt foglight last year.
