Default Plastic wheel centers

I have a 2007 A4 Quattro with stock 17 inch five spoke wheels. The wheel centers have a plastic collar around them. Starting last year the paint has peeled off all four of these. Is this a common problem? I know I can remove them and paint them but is seems to me that this shouldn't happen to car of this quality. Has Audi ever acknowledged this problem?

Same thing is happening to one of mine. It is yellow underneath. Looks horrible. Shame on Audi.

It shouldn't happen ... but it has to many of us! After seeing the price for these new (I think about $65 each) I decided to paint mine. Took no time to sand them down a bit and spray painted 3 or 4 layers of silver on to them. Very pleased with the results.

I bought a 2006 used in 2010 and the centers were starting to go. I found a place online and replaced all 4 for $75. I think they can from Asia. They look like new.
