I have an 06 A4 2.0T w/ 46K miles on it,

took it in to a mechanic in San Diego today to get a little tune up because I'm getting ready to drive it to VA because I'm stationed over there now. The mechanic comes back and says the code coming up says "loss of communication to transmission module" and to take it immediately to the dealer to see if there is any warranty that can help me. we all know transmissions run up the bill and every bit helps. I left it at the dealer and they are going to get back to me in the morning. the dealer said it might be covered by a 7yr/70k mile extension to the factory warranty. i've been looking for more info on this but havent been able to find anything

Has anyone experienced a similar problem or know what I can expect to hear tomorrow? or anything about the warranty extension?

Greetings from Vancouver. I love San Diego! Haven't been there in a long time. I'm sure much has changed.

I'm not familiar with US warranties but as far as I know the original warranty should be 3 years or 60,000 miles. Whichever comes first. Extended warranty warranties are available to 80,000 miles or so but you always need to have the vehicle repaired and serviced at a dealer. So if you have all your bills I guess you should be all right. And just before your warranty expires Audi of America would have contacted you to ask you if you'd like to extend your warranty another couple of years or so.

Hopefully things turn out well. If your TCM is toast, there has to be a reason for it's failure. Something like that doesn't fail out of nowhere and you'll be left on limp mode.
