Re: Importing from US
My new A4 is in the driveway. Boy was it easy. I was very anxious to see how everything was going to happen. To my biggest surprise everything went great.
Drove to the dealer, he explaine the fonctions in the car, drove back to US custom, my mom who was joining me did not even have time to get out of the bathroom that I was done there. Drove to de Can. border. took 15 minutes and all was done.
Now I am waiting for form 2, I will come back to tell you the rest.
In french we say "plus de peure que de mal" would translate in something like more scared then hert. Allot of people found me couragous to get my car from US. For now, I think I would have been stupid not to. Maybe I was very lucky but it was so easy. Yes it is more trouble, if I exagerate my time and say I took me 2 days work to save 10K. I even included a lunch for 3 and supper for 4 in my fees, for me it was mutch wort it, I am far from making Bill Gates $$ .

Re: Importing from US
Yeah, I was surprised at how easy it was too. The border I crossed at (Queenston Lewiston) is relatively small compared to some of the other major border crossings in my area, and they said they average about 50 cars a day at that border alone. So to them, you're just another one of what they've already done a million times...

Re: Importing from US (Over and very Happy)
OK, the final step was to get it plated. I do not know if they do this in other provinces but, In Quebec I had to go twice at the plate office. The first time they photocopied the papers and sent them to the head office to get it approved, I had to go back the next day. But the next day the girl reconized me and as soon as she was done with here client she mad me a signe to passe right away. I was glad not to have to wait a seconde time.
So now everything is done. All the process went very well, at each step i was scared to have a surprise pop in my face but no, it looks like I had made my homework good.
Just to vent a bit. 2 things that bothered me was, first I had to pay PST on the 6.1 % duty, taxes on taxes, plus GST on the PST.I also had a extra taxe to plate the car because it is a car more then 40K, so again an other taxe. Wouppi bend over sir.
I know it is not millions but, I am having more and more problems with all the taxes I pay.

Re: Importing from US
Shortly after I brought my car over and thought all was said and done. I got a letter from the government requesting photocopies of the paper work. So I send that off and today I get a bill for $107 in apparently 'overlooked taxation'. What a bunch of bull...

Re: Importing from US
Got a little deception today. It seems that since march first Audi Canada does not allow the Candian dealers to sell the Audi care program. I add intended to buy this one. I find it very sad that Audi instead of beeing competitive with the US they decide to put stick in the weels, I find that it is a strange move.

Re: Importing from US
If the Canadian Dealers all of a sudden try to be competitive with the US prices the resale values on these cars will help everyone trying to sell their cars. Imagine you buy a car for $50,000 and then a year later instead of being worth $43,000 it's only worth $35,000. That would really suck for everyone.
