Default Would you do it?

2003 B6 A4 3.0 6MT

I am looking at a 2003 A4 3.0 with about 245000 km's or 152k Miles. I know the mileage is a bit high but this vehicle is well maintained with full service history at the dealership. The high mileage is mostly highway as the owner lives quite far from the city and commuted everyday on the highway. One owner, 6 speed manual, the body is in excellent shape, and no accidents as well. It is priced at about $7000 CAD. I am going to bring it to a audi mechanic to inspect it tomorrow but would like your opinions on this purchase. Am I making a mistake? Thanks!

Mileage is high but the price looks good. Is the price still negotiable? Having it checked out is a wise decision. Will the owner certify the car?

Good luck

Hey, thanks for your reply. $7k is the lowest, after negotiation. If the inspection comes back clean, I will buy it. It's going to come certified and e-tested. Only thing that bothers me is the high mileage. I'm not really expecting another 100k out of the car but if it can give me another 40-50k before the next timing belt change, I'd be happy for what I paid for.

IF the body is good, you can usually find a swap engine for that for not too much maybe in between 1000 - 1500 or so

The body is indeed in very good shape. Only some minor stone chips on the hood. Engine swap for less than $1500? That sounds too good to be true, lol.

Can I have some recommendations for Audi mechanics? Thanks guys.

I think you're making a mistake. Take your 7K and put it down on a much newer Audi and pay off the rest over a few years. The problem with a 245K car is that anything can go wrong at any time. My car has less than 1/2 that mileage, and it's left me stranded twice without any warning. Just something to think about.

you know what that is a good point. There are alot of things such as sterring, clutch and plenty of other things that will add up to a lot. I dont know waht i was thinking.

It's all about maintenance. If your serious about the car, have it professionally inspected by someone who knows how to service Audi's. That will be your best indicator of vehicle condition.

Simply for reference, how did the owner of the famous 63 VW beetle put over 1 million recorded miles on it? He fixed it when it broke and kept driving.

Yeah, but during that 1-Million miles, how many times did it breakdown and leave him in the middle of know where... But I agree, that almost any car can handles tonnes of mileage if you care for it. Reliability... that's another issue.

If one wants the highest reliability, one needs to buy new and not a $7K used Audi.

I'm not discounting the issue of the higher mileage but the car can easily go double that if not more as long as it is maintained. A lower mileage car will cost more so it's all relative to purchase price vs mileage and maintenance state.

With the Warranty Service level cut backs over the recent years, does a new Audi still come with a free tow to the local dealer if it breaks down at the side of the road?
