Timing Belt Job is $1400 reasonable

Re: Timing Belt Job is $1400 reasonable
For a 3 litre, a 1400 dollar timing belt job is very reasonable and at this cost you really should ask yourself if the tech really knows exactly how much work is involved because if he did, I don't think he would be quoting you 1400. Be careful....

would have with upgraded parts not OEM parts. The OEM water pump is plastic
the upgrade is metal and higher grade. Also a gasket started to leak months later and they replaced it for free as part of the service with no aditional labor cost.

Apparently it's not just the belt. They replace the rollers, thermostat and water pump. Now, I'm just not sure why I should replace parts that have not yet failed. Seems strange to me....
The story is that these parts will fail and should be replaced with this service. Of the three companies I spoke to, they all told me the same thing. Maybe that's why my quote was high.
When you did the work on your A6, did you just do the belt or the thermostat and water pump too.
