timing belt change?

is it expensive to replace one? i bought my a4 2nd handed at around 119000, wondering if it is the time to replace a new one.

if so, where is a good place to replace it? canadian tire?

 

Canadian Tire is definitely not a good place to go to for this !! The cost is in the area of $850. I understand the B6 recommended interval is at 115,000 kms although many suggest doing it sooner. I would suggest you go to a reputable Audi mechanic ASAP and if you're in either the Ottawa or Toronto area, I would be happy to provide a couple of names ...

the thing is i bought it 2nd handed, so i dont know if the previous guy has already replaced it or not...
plus the dealership i got the car from promised any parts of the engine and other areas of the car if it's below 80% of life they replaced with a new one...
so i am not very sure about the condition of the belt on my car.

i dont feel anything weird about the car when i'm on the road though...

how does one know if the belt is almost out, does the car show any signs when driving?
the reason i'm asking because i've been going through a lot of posts here and it made me wondering.

i would really appreciate if you can give me some names of where i can replace it if that's the case. does the audi dealer charge a lot more doing repaires than regular mechanics??? I'm in toronto btw.

Don't delay. You're already over the recommended service interval and many times its better to do it even earlier than the recommended service interval for such a critical part.

There are no signs of impending doom, one day it just snaps and you kill the engine. The only sign is physically on the belt itself. You can peek behind the plastic to see if it is in terrible shape.

You may be able to check with the dealer if it has been done and if they have any service records but i'd do it ASAP if it hasn't already been performed.
