Default Sterio Safe mode?

Hello,

I drive a B5 A4. I had to pull the battery out for some work on it yesterday. When I put the battery back in. I turned the car on went to listen to the radio than all it said was SAFE. Does anyone know how to get it out of SAFE mode? I could not find nothing about it in the manual.

Thank You

This is an anti-theft feature. When the radio is disconnected from a power source, it locks itself so that it won't be of any use to thieves. The security code and a how-to guide to re-activate the unit should be in your manual. From what I remember (and I'm reaching here because I'm at work and don't have the manual in front of me), I think you hold the scan and rds buttons until the screen flashes 1000 and allows you to enter a four digit code using the numbered preset station buttons. The process varies slightly across model years so you should consult your manual.

Without the code I believe you need to go to the dealer and they can use the serial number from the stereo to look up the code in their system. No idea what this costs.

As the previous post indicated, you will need your radio security code and then follow the intructions from the link above.

Not sure... My best advice is to call them and ask.

You have a specific code for your radio. Ask them how this has happened that they forgot to give it to you?
Once you have it Tatoo it somwhere. I have it in the trunk.

This is stupid right now as nobody will ever steal your car. The thieves know that when they steal it it will quit 20 seconds later so they don't do it.

They will ask you to come later when their special GURU comes on Saturday or they will give you the code right away.

Just an FYI. I had to track down my code. I went to my local dealer and they told me that since they had never serviced the car there they didn't know what it was. I had to call the original purchase dealership and they gave it to me over the phone. Didn't even make me verify that I was the registered owner.
