Default smashed my oil pan, how much $$$

I just destroyed my oil pan about an hour ago, gotta call insurance tomorrow, just wondering how much roughly it would cost to change out, tryin to figure if they are gonna total the car and I should start looking now for a new one or if they will fix it, I know a pan and a heater is about $400ish but how much labour is involved to change it.

oil pan shouldn't be more than an hour's work to replace but if you smashed the oil pan there's a chance the sump (oil pump) needs to be replaced as well so budget for that.

BTW, why would they opt to total the car if all that needs to be replaced is the oil pan and heater????

they said if theres any engine damage they are totaling the car, I still don't see why however I will fight to have it fixed, its 4hrs labour to swap the pan but the insurance company won't ok any repairs until the bearings and bottom end has been checked out, on the plus side I was found not at fault and won't be getting any points against my licence

There's obviously a money making factor behind their decision to deem the car totaled but beware the settlement offer they will make to you. Do some research and find out what steps are involved in making sure you get the best possible settlement out of it.

If it were me, I'd take the money and buy a newer Audi. Only thing is, I hear that the first gen 2.0T engines are garbage compared to the newer gen 2.0T engines so buying a newer A4 would mean 2010 and up.

B8s are out of my price range, I'm sure I shut it off before any engine damage was caused, B6s around here are still selling for $10k+ and I have recipts for the last year of over $1800 worth of stuff, I'm not too worried, I bought what I thought to be a beater B5 at the beginning of Jan so I'm driving that for the time being
