This may seem like a silly question, and im not familiar with what material its made of, but the bottom panels(both passenger doors and bottom portion of rear bumper) on my A4 is scratched like no other, i bought this car used, and the sales man had no clue on how to fix these scratches, they are very deep scratches and i have absolutely no idea how the previous owner could have got these without using a machete..I was wondering if theres anyway to smooth/get rid of these deep scratches , if its any help, i own a B6 A4 silver.

so you've got the painted bottom trim instead of the black ones?

 

no i have the black ones, just that these cuts and scratches in them are deep, and i want to sand them out haha, im not sure if thats a good idea or not thou.

 

Scratches may have been from the previous owner taking the car off roading! Seriously though, let us know the progress of your "project"!

 

From mid 2004 to end of 2005 the lower bumper and sides became the same colour.
I have the same colour and when I had it profesionally detailes, deep scratches especially on bumper will simply noy go away. You can minimize them and try touch up paint
The only other option is to resand and paint all over. Should you do that I suggest a complete compound\polish of the car to minimize the old vs. Newly painted area as it will blend way better
Hope that helps besides black trimming will show less and is easier to hide

 

haha true, i was thinking about sanding it with 80 grit and working my way to finer grit then polishing lol, but i just cant find the time to work on it.

also the rock chips on the front bumper make me cry a little everytime i wash the car and see them lol, and i wouldnt be surprised if the previous owner told me he went off roading :P

 

Wait until spring time. Bumper will not rust and may I suggest to do it right maybe consider paying a pro to do it. It will cost a few hundred dollars...besides front bumper scratches are not that obvious from normal viewing

 

The rule of thumb for scratches is easy, if you can catch your fingernail on them it needs to be sanded and painted but if it still feels smooth you may be able to polish them out.

 

Ha ha true I really should pay for a good bodyshop/paint shop to get these scratches and chips out :P but I have no clue of any good body/paint shops in Waterloo. Also being a student, I rarely have free time or the cash to do it lol.

 

The other option is to use touch-up guys, these are the guys that go to dealerships to remove scratches and chips. The can do some really high quality 'looking' work and for the short term it looks really nice but I don't know how it looks over the long term.
