So I just picked up an '03 A4 today with 145,000kms. Driving home the check engine light came on. Plugged the reader in, showed P0328 as the code. Only one so far.

How deep am I in here?

 

I think that's your knock sensor... have you been using premium grade fuel?

 

I don't know what the previous owner used. If it's the knock sensor, is that serious?

 

It could be the sensor itself or the fuel grade issue. Maybe you should start off by asking the previous owner what grade of fuel he used.

 

If the engine is sensing knock, it will pull timing to prevent it. I think that code is telling you that the sensor is malfunctioning. Check and clean the connections, if it comes back, change the sensor. Be very careful to use only premium gas, because if the sensor is not working, it won't be able to pull timing to prevent detonation.
