Question oil question 3.0

Yo, I was wondering if I should use Castrol Syntec or pennzoil full synthetic oil for an 02 a4 3.0 q. The last oil change was castrol. But I want best sludge protection. Which is the better choice? Also which weight do I use? 0w-30, 5w-30, or 10w-30? What about 5w-40? My car has 82,000 miles and Im trying to reduce ticking from lifters (if at all possible) Awesome Thanks!

you would/should read the manual about the viscosity of the oil you should be using in the 3.slow.

as for better protection...its really your call. some like castrol, some like pennzoil, and some will also say amsoil....i think the amsoil is rated the best. to be honest i have no idea what is in my car. I just have the dealership do it.

Thumbs up Re: oil question 3.0

I think 0w-30 is good for cold/winter weather due to it being thinner, I guess I'll go with 5 or 10w30 and stick with castrol. I heard that 0w-30 was good for valve ticking, but I would think it would make it worse. Makes for more moving parts because it is thinner. Thanks for help and keep those replies flyin

I don't think that oil brands would make a huge differance. As long as it's syn....you're good to go!!

10w40 a little bit too sticky.
not smooth at cold temp will get little bit harder on start-up as well. at extreme cold winter

I got synthetic 5w 30 put in. I was thinking this is 4 cylinder oil and 10w 30 is for v6. is this right? My buddy is a tech at audi and hooked me up with free oil all I had to get was the filter. should I go 10w30 after the winter? Thanks a lot.

O yeah... I hear to use fuel system cleaner after an oil change. Anybody know whats the best one for a4's?

Thanks for all the good info

My Audi guy insists on an ELF synthetic. Can't buy it at Canadian Tire, which gives it cred. Check around, North American syn's are not always what they say they are.
