Default Oil changes

My 2003 a4 calls for oil changes every 15000 kms or 1 year. Should i go by this or change it earlier. Seems like a long time to use the same oil.

it's the opposite for me..
my audi has just about 5700 kms..
its been telling me to change my oil for the last 700 kms..
i spoke to the dealership.. and they informed me that no matter wht.. 8000 K is usually optimal..

Personally, I would not go 15,000 KMs on same oil. Most suggest max 8K with a good synthetic (maybe 10K with a mid top up), 5K max with non-synthetic. If your really serious, find a shop to analyze your oil as it ages, this is the ultimate indicator of oil life cycle specific for your engine.

Another issue is climate as cold winters should prompt Spring and Fall oil changes due to potential moisture accumulation regardless of mileage. In cold winters, check under the oil filler cap for signs of a creamy light brown foam... it's moisture accumulation (esp with short drives under 25KMs).

Since the 3.0L does not have a Turbo, the mfg does not call for synthetic oil... but you could inquire with your dealer if synthetic is OK. We run our '02 3.0L on Mobil1 synthetic.
