I am about to buy an 2005.5 Audi A4. (B7) It has the factory navigation unit. Just before we went for the inspection the navigation stopped working. It doesn't seem to be loading the disk.

The Audi dealership looked at it and isn't sure what is wrong. They updated to the latest firmware. I think the owner said 260. They also tried putting a 2009 disk from another car into it and it didn't work.

Yet the burned disk that the owner has works intermitantly. Where should we go from here? The audi dealership is saying we should order a new disk and see if that works.

It showed faults related to reading the disk.
Would this navigation system be the "RNS-E" system?

 

What do you mean by not loading the disk? Does it go in and out ok? Does it just not recognize the nav disk? Do music CD's play OK?

 

Well what i would do is tell your dealer fix it yourself and then when its fixed call me and i will by the car if that is the car you want .

 

It doesn't recognize the disk. It ejects not a problem. I was told the dash DVD drive is just for the Nav system and that it won't play CDs. It has the cd changer for that.

It isn't a dealer it is a private seller.

I am waiting for them to get it fixed but they aren't sure what angle to take.

 

it is the RNS-E navigation the drive is a dvd rom it will play cds just not dvd movies.
if a cd will not play in it i would say its the optical drive has gone.the drive can be replaced without replacing the whole unit.

Okay, I also just found out the dealer showed "CAN bus faults" as well is this something we should be concerned about?

 

Sounds more like a head unit then the disk. U try a CD yet?

 

The owner tried a CD and he said it told him on the screen to eject the audio disk and put a map disk in. It did recognize it as a CD though.

Also he said the head unit has frozen up twice while trying to load the maps, which I think caused the CAN bus fault.

 

Pretty sure the CANBUS is only used for the steering wheel controls and the CD changer. I would offer a purchase price assuming you will need a new $1,400 ish deck. No point in trying to fix it for him. Sounds broken.

 

I'm having the same issue I just burnt a copy successfully but it won't read , the unit keeps asking to insert nav DVD . I bought a burnt copy off eBay supposedly for 2015/2016 for my RSNE plus unit (not sure what gen only has cd/sd , no media or tv) but the eBay disc works .... I guess ... develeopements from 2014/2015 don't show even certain roads don't give the actual name it will be like RR3 Wst ( regional road 3 west). But other than that it works perfect and I am using my OEM shark fin antenna for GPS signal and I get 8-10 satalites out of 11!!!! Not bad at all!!!! If anyone wants to know how to use your factory shark fin for GPS let me know PM me ! YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY A FAKRA GPS ANTENNA!!!
