Lightbulb halogen to xenon question

My wife's a4 has halogens that I'd like to upgrade to xenon's. Do I need to buy canbus (can bus?) ballasts so that she doesn't get a headlight out error on the dash? Or, can I simply reprogram her car and put in normal non-canbus ballasts? I have a vag com so reprogramming isn't an issue.

I searched, but nothing useful popped up.

Thanks.

I am going to sound like an A$$ but seriously
Have you really? I mean there is soooooooo many threads here on the net & on audizine that will keep you busy reading for weeks!

If you have stock halogen headlights you simply need an HID kit with ballast and bulb stick to 4300 color same as OEM Xenon. Best bet is from DDM or VVME. However you will have to make a small drill and find a place to secure the ballast...I simply remained stock halogen

Actually I did search. If you'll notice my question was quite specific, and as such so were my search terms. If you don't believe me, try searching in the B6, Exterior/Body, and ICE subforums for canbus xenon and let me know what you come up with. I was on DDM and was going to order the raptor v2's, but again there's a kit you can purchase separately (canbus) to eliminate error codes. They mention it's needed for Mercs and BMWs, but not Audi's in particular. As far as sending people to audizine, why would you do that? By doing that you're inadvertently calling this place useless.

And if you're curious, I was going to get 4300K.

Thanks.

On 2nd thoughts avoid DDM and stick with either VVME or better yet OEM Xenon and none of that aftermarket nonsense which will ALWAYS remain inferior quality and performance...That is why I remained stock Halogen projectors and might only might replace my H11 fog lights with something a tad brighter with a bluish tint with Hoen

Not my car...Look at Hoen driver side fog vs. stock passenger side fog

"If you have a cash crunch, then you can buy an OEM xenon HID kit on eBay, (there are a couple of sellers here on AZ as well.) that includes either D2S or D1S HID projectors, D2S or D1S HID lamp burners, ballasts and connecting cables. D2S is my preference, there are a lot more lamps available at a lower price compared to D1S, but you should always use German Philips or OSRAM HID lamps, the Asian made lamps are not up to par performance or reliability wise.

To install the OEM kit, you swap out the projectors, cut a hole in the housings where the ballast mounts to the bottom of the housing and secure the ballast with the gasket to the housing using 6ea 1/2" #8 screws. The mounting pad location for the ballast is already molded into the housing. The wiring inside the housing is converted by cutting off the H7 bulb connector, and splicing the ballast power input connector wires to the Red and Brown wires, to replace the H7 bulb connector with the ballast power input wiring connector. Then connect the ballast output to the HID lamp using the provided connector cable. Reinstall the rear housing covers, then install in the car and aim the lights using an approved procedure for manual aiming. "

Finally I enjoy reading and contributing on this 100% Canadian Audi enthusiast forum, having said that this forum like any other forum is public and regardless what you say Audizine has a large Canadian members and is in fact alot more active sorry to burst your delicate bubble
