Default It was a good two years then one day.. car stalls..no codes!!!!

Hey Folks,

Hopefully i can get some input from the pro's here!!

Car stalls at lights or while driving.. even on the highway!! It just dies.. no rpms

Here's what happens

car dies
go to start it.. it cranks put it doesn't start
let it sit for 15 seconds
Start and the EPC light comes up with the RPMs at 1100 (fluctuating)
turn it off, wait 15 seconds
starts as if nothing???

On a side note: normally when i start the car i here the fuel pump going..other time like when im cracking i don't think i can here it???

Changed the Fuel filter and the Crankcase Ventilation valve.. no change.

its hard to diagnose without a Code!!

My internet search have brought the following possibilities

Fuel Pump
Fuel pump relay
MAF issues
Engine speed sensor
Mechanical vacuum pump (located to the left side on the ABS/esp module) its a round silver canister apparently - a audi worker stated that this part often brakes without error codes

Thanks in advance!

Another possibility.. the key fob maybe malfunctioning and telling the car to immobilize!!!!

Gonna try the spare!

I don't think this is the problem. Would be pretty dangerous if your fob could kill your car on the highway while in motion.

Spare made no difference.. found that the little blue check valve what not working (not able to blow through it from either side) going to replace that and see.

Thumbs up Re: It was a good two years - NO CODES, car stalling!!!!

Could also be a vacuum leak.
Happened on my '04 A4 1.8T Quattro, same symptoms.
Listen for hissing sound under the intake manifold.
Have you tested for any codes? (OBD II)
My Codes showed random misfire.
It was a broken vacuum T connection, right underneath the intake manifold.
Replaced the T from Canadian Tire ($3.00).
Ran perfect after that!

Had similar issues in my 97. Had to keep on the gas so it would not stall. Made it all the way back from a road trip like that. Turned out to be the MAF.

The car isnt throwing any codes, so its not a boost or vacuum leak, nor is it coil pack as it would throw missfires all over.

My suggestion is :

Change your fuel filter.
