Default Engine swap 2007 3.2 S-Line w/Quattro

Hi Everyone,

First time posting.

I am in the market for a used A4. I'm currently really interested in a 2007 3.2 S-Line A4.

It's appealing to me because it has low KM on it and is in excellent shape. The bigger engine is certainly a plus too. With a 6 speed nonetheless...

My one concern is that the owners, after buying it new, after about 10,000 KM their engine had developed a bad "ticking" sound. After the dealership had it a week and couldn't figure out what was wrong, they just went and put a new engine in it.

Is this the sign of a company that is guarding its reputation for quality? And not wanting a negative hit, decided to take the route of "let's avoid any problems" and put the new engine in?

Or is it the signs of a car that will lead to other trouble? I know this is an "opinion" style question... just curious what the thought process is. Does anyone else know of Audi swapping the engine out of a new car? Is this "routine" practice? Or a big red flag?

I sincerely appreciate your feedback.

Matt

well you have the 3.2...my knowledge doesn't really go past the 1.8T lol...but I do know the 1.8T is notorious for oil sludge buildup if you follow audi's maintenance schedule of changing oil ever 15k

I change mine ever 7,500k

But the ticking...hmmmm...perhaps someone else with the same engine can have some input on what the ticking sound might be...but hey...if you got a new engine...you're one lucky guy!!!

If the car still has a powertrain warantee, then I wouldn't worry about it. When the dealer replaced the engine (under warantee) they get to bill Audi Canada for the work. I'm sure they dealer made a tidy sum of $$ for the maintenance and the good new's is that your car has a new engine. As long as you get a powertrain warantee I think you're good to go!
