Default Checking engine code problem

The other day my check engine light came on. It was on for a couple days and then turned itself off.

I have a buddy with an OBD-II diagnostic tool. We hooked it up just to see if there were any codes hanging around to read but we kept getting an error.

The tool kept flashing 8888 which generally means an error in reading. If there were no codes it usually displays 0.

Is there a chance this won't work on the '05 A4? Or could it be reading no codes as an error?

Thoughts?

Default Re: Checking engine code problem

depends on what type of code reader it is. There are several OBDII readers that do not work
