Default Changing Timing Belt, what else? 2003 A4 3.0

Hi all,

I bought my A4 with a 130K kilos. I doubt that the previous owner changed the timing built, and I don't want to take chances and planning to have it changed.

Obviously, I'm not going to the dealer, and I know a good mechanic. My question is since the engine will be opened, is there any recommendations to do any other service for that mileage (i.e. tune-up)?

Another question. One of the fog light bulbs burnt out. I bought a set. Would I be able to change it myself without taking the bumper appart? I haven't tried, but since I'm posting this, I thought that I might as well ask.

Thanks in advance!

The fog light grilles come right off which allow you access to replace the halogen foglights. The projectors come right out and you have to take them apart to get the old bulb out and the new one in.

In regards to a tune up, I'd say spark plugs, cabin filter, fuel filter and air filter should be replaced. Be sure that your timing belt tensioner is replaced when you do your timing belt job, and any gaskets that are leaking be replaced as well. The basic timing belt service consists of the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, waterpump and waterpump gasket.

No problem. Good to find out the truth from real Audi owners before taking your vehicle to the dealership or to a service centre.

You can also do much of this on your own with basic hand tools. Let me know if you need help.

I would also change some of your other belts while you're at it. Serpentines, and fan belt. Just changed my rad, timing belt (plus kit), water pump, thermostat, serpentine belts, and fan belt. Car runs like a dream now minus the ICM and bearing that I gotta change next

Could replace Serpentine Tensioner along with new Serp belt.

Considering the amount of labor involved to gain access combined with the fact that if an aged roller siezes, I'd recommend a complete Timing Belt Kit which includes everything everyone has already listed but also includes the 3 timing belt Rollers for the 3.0L engine.

When you do the timing belt replace the water pump and thermostat. They come out of the car during the timing belt job, so it's a great time to replace them. The water pump blades are plastic....

Also, Check the boots for your steering rack for leaks or cracks. These will cause the rack to leak eventually fail. Steering rack replacement is damn expensive. . Other than that... enjoy....
