Question Change in the Ashtray

Ok before you tell me I'm stupid....I know but really where else can you leave your change without leaving it in the open.

So now I've dropped either a quater or a loonie in the slot that the ashtray cover slides into and the cover won't open fully. Is there an easy way to fix the problem without taking the whole console apart. I haven't been able to fish the coin out yet!!!

Help.

Greg.

Actually the credit card holder is worse.

I did have the coins in there but it is too easy for them to come out of the top of the box when the box is closed and slide in behind.......then you can't close the container. Audi fished it out of there the last time, but not without the stupid Audi Driver lecture in their best German accents- Jawohl!!!!

Never-the-less only business cards now go in the business card slot!!!

haha...I did this too in my B7. Same ashtray I think, as I had a B6 Avant before this. In the B7 I have the aluminium trim, so it's semi-scary when you try to FORCE it open. Scared to bend the trim. If you've ever crumpled a ball of tinfoil up and tried to make it flat and smooth, you know what I feared!

Eventually I jiggled it loose, but this...

get a rare earth magnet from Lee Valley Tools. Little ones...most powerful things you've ever used. They're nuts. Just make sure you put felt between it and the trim/ashtray lid or if metal, it'll latch on and not let go.

I almost got the ashtray pulled out but there is a curved piece of plastic on the bottom of the ashtray that hangs up if you don't pull the climate controls out. I have not figured out how to pull the climate controls out - any hints here would help.

I'll have to try the magnet approach... thanks for the hint on using the super, rare earth magnet.

here's a link to one of their magnets...this will make holding on to it easier. check how strong it is...holding a big adjustable wrench and sticking to the metal shelf! I threw one of these at a fridge in university. I was 30 feet away from the fridge. It latched on and didn't slip an inch. WHACK!
