Default Buying 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. Need Advise...

Hi Guys/Gals,

I'm in the market for Audi A4 1.8T Quattro (A4-B6) and will be checking out a few cars very soon.

My question to you is, what are few things I should be looking for while shopping? Any known common issues/recalls that I should be more attentive to during test driving and inspection? I just don't want any surprises after making the purchase.

I've bought used cars before so I know the general rules but I thought it'd be helpful to get some insights from the actual owners like you!

Any tips will be greatly appreciated!

I will keep you posted of my progress and when I made the decision.

Thank you!
Kevin

I looked at one listing today and mechanically and exterior wise the car was in good shape however the interior was a disaster... going to look at couple more listings this week. I'll keep you guys posted!

Hi kevin, I have a 2002 Audi A4 silver 1.8T, quattro.
I have had it since new.
I am going to sell it in the next 2 months or so.
It has 276,000 and in immaculate condition.
If you wish to check it out send me a message

However,
Even if you are not interested in buying my car, I can certainly update you as to what you should look for.

The first thing that comes to mind is a knowledgable and trustworthy Audi mechanic.
Without that , you can easily spend needless amounts on repairs

+1 audigemini!
Especially for Audi, spend $200 and have an independent Audi specialist check it out and make sure you have FULL history and maintenance records or else simply check the next one!
Better be safe than sorry and you'll know what needs to be done like the timing belt/water pump/tensioners which alone runs about $900/$1300 and must be done every 5 years or 125,000km

I agree with AudiMontreal. You need to know the history. A few Audi problems can easily suck several thousand dollars out of your pocket. Or get a CPO car from an Audi dealer.

This post might come a bit late but either way, I bought a 2002 B6 A4 1.8t quattro in sept with 100 000k on it, has been an excellent car and would recommend it to anybody! It's no race car but has plenty of pep and passes on the highway are a breeze. Mine is equipped with the 5 speed manual but I wish I would have known about the 6 speed. My gas mileage is pretty decent for a awd at 25-30 mpg depending on how I drive it but it seems like another gear would be handy on the highway as I hum along at 140kph at 4000rpm. As was previously mentioned by audimontreal the timing chain/tensioner and waterpump are the common mechanical issues with them. Mine is a fairly base model but its still an Audi, I didn't think a lack of rear heated seats and the larger stock wheels were a major factor as opposed to mileage and condition. In conclusion, yes buy one!!

^^No chain on the A4 its a belt. oem water pump with plastic impeller are the issue, just replace by a "Graf" water pump with metal impeller
