OK technically I have a 2004 Audi S4 Cabriolet but I figured this is likely to be a broader electrical issue and not specific. Title says it all. Getting a right and left rear brake light alarms and, in fact, the right rear brake light was out. I changed that AND the left and am still getting brake light alarm and a generic right rear bulb warning. I didnt see any gross wire problems.

Right rear light refers to the small bulb in the bottom center of the lighting cluster. It isn't a generic error. I can't remember the bulb type but it is the one that is much smaller than the others. My 2004 A4 was displaying both right rear and left rear light messages and replacing the small bulbs did the trick.
