I have a 2004 A4 1.8T with a 6spd. manual trans. it has been making an annoying noise in first gear for over a year now, it is only heard when I accelerate, when I let off the gas the noise goes away, now on top of that I have a whining noise in all gears no matter what speed I go. Originally I was told it may be a chipped first gear tooth which apparently is common on these transmissions? now I am told it is probably bad transmission bearings. The fluid was changed this past summer and is at the proper level.
Has anyone had or heard of similar problems with these transmissions? Should I try to get it rebuilt, try to find a used one or bite the bullet and get a new one?

 

...kind a sounds like mine except i have no noise but i have a hard time putting it in first gear...

 

Mine's been hard to shift lately. Kinda clunks into gear. If I keep the clutch in and shift slowly (move it out of gear, leave it in neutral for a second, then shift into the next gear) it seems better.

 

Mine does that in 3rd gear. loud clacking sound like a i have a playing card stuck in my spokes on a bike.

I just skip 3rd gear when driving.
