Hi

here is an update

I took it to a local mechanic in Markham . He ran it through the vag com (or some scanner ) and told me it needed a compressor.I paid him 40 dollars for the scan.

I called an Audi shop in Scarborough that is well recommended by this site and they told me "it is highly unlikley that it is the compressor". He said he has been fixing Audis for years and rarely replaced a compressor.
He suggested that I bring it in for a second opinion.

If it only needed a recharge , it would be 140.00

Maybe I should just get it recharged and see what happens??

Also if I can do it myself even better.

Any further thoughts?

Thanks!!!

im confused why you didnt bring it to a shop to do an proper air con test....?

they put pressure in the system, add dyes, test for leaks, vag com to see if theres any faulty codes in the system, etc.

what code did the mechanic give you that says its the compressor, if you give me the code I can check to see what specifically it is.

a shop that would do a air conditioning test would tell you if a recharge is required or not. Dont go spending $140 for a recharge if that is not the issue.

Plus that seems very very pricey. I'd avoid the stealership and go to an independent, reputable Audi/VW/Porchse mechanic. You'll get way better prices.

The air conditioning in your car is the same system that is in your house. The problem with cars is that there are so many moving parts that often A/C hoses and fittings will get worn and leaks develop causing loss of refrigerant. R-134a refrigerant that is used in your car is non global warming and non ozone depleteing making it a "Green" product.

If you lost refrigerant than you have a leak. It is a closed system and if everything is working properly than you would not lose refrigerant. Topping it up may give you A/C for a period of time but will eventually leak out again unless you fix the leak.

Here are the steps I would take. Go to a reputable shop that has a certified Auto A/C mechanic on staff. Find out where the leak is and in most cases it can be something simple like an old "O" ring in one of the fittings, and get the leak fixed. Recharge the system and away you go. It really isn't necessary to go to a specific Audi mechanic because the A/C system in an Audi is no different than any other car.

One of our sponsors here (All About Imports) is a reputable shop, does great work, and in most cases will give a discount for Audiforum.ca members.

Good luck and let us know what the outcome is.

Hi

Here is a further update

I went to cdn tire in in stouffville.

They ran the tests and tried to put R134a into the system and said that my refridgerant is fine and there are no leaks in my system.

They also checked the power supply leading to the compressor and determined that there is no power getting to the compressor. He checked the electrical wires and they were dead.
They checked the fuses and said they are ok.

Because they do not specialize in audis , he said that is all he could do.
He suggested I go to an Audi specialist.

Problem is that I really don't have an Audi specialist that I know and trust. I will try All About Imports

When the power isn't getting to the compressor , any thoughts what it might be.

Will a vag com tell the story? I tried my own diagnostic tool (innova 3100) and it didnt show any codes related to this.

Thanks

Any thoughts on my power supply leading
