Also, you're best bet for a used tranny is probably an auto wrecker.

P.S. i got cheated in a sense that the guy promised me the car will driver perfect for 4 years..its only been an year and half old since i bought the car and I hardly drive it.

 

That's a pretty ridiculous promise to make and an even more ridiculous promise to keep. Nobody can predict the future. I would google U-Pull + GTA and see what comes up... not from the area so I'm not sure.

 

Question for all you experts here. Would a VW passat or Jetta tranny fit? That way Uma's search can be broadened.

 

Just experienced a similar situation, bought used from an individual, ran great for the first 3 months, started to hear a grinding whine... $4700 later runs like new!! (the roller bearings on the main input shaft was the culprit). Not easy finding used quality tranny's, the rebuilt ones from either the US or Canada run in the hi $3000 to low $4000's + installation.

Mine was rebuilt at a shop here in Ottawa, they did a fantastic job and provide a 2yr, 40,000km warranty. Hated spending the money but no real other option!

 

The trannies can be rebuilt. Don't always have to go with junk yard used or dealer exchange. I had mine rebuilt at AutoShop on Haas Road in Rexdale (North Etobicoke) GTA.

 

Unlikely. The 1.8 in the Jetta and the Passat is mounted transversely and I'm pretty sure they use a very different transaxel.
