Hi Guys,

Now that my car is 6 years old I'm wondering if I should be concerned about rust. I keep is clean and waxed but I've never done any rust protection or anything like that. My car appears to be rust free but I'm wondering if there are any areas that are more prone to rust than others. I.E. Wheel Wells, Bottom of Door etc....

As my car ages, what areas should I keep my eye on for rust. I want to keep my car until 2014, so I really want to take good care of it. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

 

You don't have to worry too much, our cars are galvanized so it isn't a big problem unless you have any paint damage that is unfixed.

You may want to keep an eye on the door latches which you can't see unless you open the door. Rust likes to build in there sometimes.

 

My car is 10 years old and i have never seen a spot of rust on it. also in the owner's manual, it said there is a 10 year warranty on the paint against rust so once i read that i wasnt surprised it's held up so well for so long.

 

I've never seen a spot of rust either (knock on wood).
The 10 year warranty is only on perforation rust though and not surface rust though.

 

My car is turning 13 years old and no rust here. As long as you wash it and keep it clean i think you are ok.

 

I "Rustcheck" mine every fall for about $150... just for good measures!
I did that when I lived in Toronto and I do that here in Edmonton too.

I love 2 know of the weak spots on the B6...I had a mk3 golf before & if I knew that the tail hatches were so rust prone I would have treated the car better...every car has it's weak spots..anyone know where it is on the B6??

 

I got Krown this fall, I'll probably keep doing it. Keeps the engine bay a bit dirty looking but otherwise...better safe than sorry.

 

You guys have it good...

I've had a couple spots repaired under Audi Rust warranty. There's also a couple spots that they wouldnt fix the first time cause they werent bad enough.

Damn stealership....
