Hi guys,

I was going through my manual and at 115K it says to "Check the ribbed belt". I assume this is the belt that runs the accessories (water pump, power steering, Alternator, etc...).

My question is, when should I have it replaced. I'm at 130K. Is it going to blow.... am I driving a ticking time bomb.....

I'm @ 120k on my 03 3.0 & have yet to change my timing belt.

Hope I can still hold out till january!!!!!!

 

I replaced by timing belt last year. I'm just wondering about the belt that runs all the accessories. When does that need replacement?

 

I would say replace it now. Failure isn't likely to wreck the engine but it will likely leave you stranded if the battery is discharged because the alternator didn't work. It won't be anywhere near as expensive or complicated as a timing belt change is - hell looking at where the belt is, maybe you can even do it without removing the bumper/radiator.

Good news. I called my Mechanic and he told me that he replace the ribbed belt last year when they did the big timing belt job.
