Default Use of radio without full accessories

Bought my first audi and noticed that there is no key position in the ignition that allows you to use the radio without turning everything else on. Ive owed a lot of cars and every vehicle alwas had one of these positions in the ignition wether it was turning the key backwards or forward one click. Am I missing something? Has anyone modified it so this is possible and if so what method did you use.

I don't know about the pre facelift B5's but for my Symphony deck, with the key out of the ignition, I can turn on the head unit by pushing the power button once. Try it. It may work on yours too.

That's certainly how things worked on my 98 A4 2.8 when I had it. Also if you leave the radio on in that mode, the radio/head unit will turn itself off after about 60 mins to save draining the battery.

On my Audi I turn the key to the off position and leave the key in the ignition...just the radio stays on nothing else.
