is it easy to pop those mirrors out?
the screws underneath are stripped-- I was going to just try and pop it out from the front but I chickened out, didn't want to wreck anything. (I am not much of a mechanic)

mirrors like that go for like 20-30 bucks a pop. thouse are regular mirors im talking about. The once with the tint, i belive it is anti icing liquid in the mirror is far more expensive, it happenes on all of thouse mirrors, i have that too already, just not as bad. So the choise is is to either invest and get the special mirrors or just buy regular cheap mirrors found on most cars. Its inside the mirror, not stain or rust, its the liquid boiling up.

Thanks! Upon further inspection it definitely looks like it's on the inside. That's interesting the liquid boiling up, probably from the crash climate change from summer to winter here (edmonton). I wonder if it is easy to pop those mirrors out from the front because I can't seem to get the screws off underneath (stripped).

im not sure how to do it myself, mine have just a little bit or "rust" looking stuff so i am okay for that . Personally i like the "tinted mirrors so i would definitely get the more expensive once.

Hey! Happy Birthday. This thing just alerted me. Sorry I forgot to quote you in my first reply. Are those mirrors easy to pop out, can I just pull it?

lol this post was just brought up here too "corroded" glass in sideview mirror - AudiForums.com

here's the DIY direct link
AudiWorld Tech Articles

and i DONT think they go for $20-30 a piece.

Anyway...the reason why they "rust" like that would be the cause of the heated feature. They automatically heat up when it dips below freezing i believe or some other set point. You could potentially rewire/solder it to the defrost button on your dash (DIY right here: AudiWorld Tech Articles )
