Default Turbo options??

I just got my 1.8t head back on after rebuilding it and all I need now is a turbo. Putting a stock T03 seems like a waste of effort. All I want is something a bit better than stock. I've heard of T03s and T04... will either of these require a program to run with them or is the stock setup able to run them?

I will be intrested in a good used turbo if someone has one for sale. If not does anybody have the part number for one so I can give it to my supplier to order?

Thank-you and hope to hear from someone. I would usually search search search but I am borrowing a friends comp right now for this even. Any help would be appreciated.

There are many versions of both of the Garrett turbo platforms you mention. The GT and GTX series are superior in the way of spool, flow, and longevity - I personally wouldn't half-*** it with a journal bearing turbo. The GT2871 makes for a good daily driver (read: spools not too late so you still have a decent power band) on a stock displacement/compression 1.8T, and can still get you ~350wHP.

Some software will work with other turbos, but will not be ideal. Anytime you switch injectors, you absolutely need to change your software (with your tuner, or yourself if you have the capability). Your stock injectors will not allow for much of a turbo upgrade (if anything at all), and certainly not into a T3/T4 sized turbo.

Okay I have a home computer again... lol. I ended up for now putting a used turbo from a auto wrecker (t03) just to get it running again. This turbo is going to be sent back though cause it is worn out and has a crack on the intake side casting. Sooo still looking for a turbo!!!!

Thanks Cheeba, the gt2871 will require injectors, chip and intercooler upgrade... is that right?

Yup, injectors and chip for sure required for any turbo upgrade to your platform. An upgraded IC is not absolutely necessary when moving to a turbo that large - by that, I mean that the car will actually drive fine without it - but no one in their right mind would run a turbo that large, and presumably the higher boost that goes along with it, on the stock IC.
