Thermostat?

Car remains cold when driving it around its temp gage is at about 1/4 and ill assume it should be at 1/2, think its the thermostat stuck open? its going to get changed soon as I will be in there doing timing,

ya should be at half its probably stuck open when you have the front end off its easier to get to.

Check thermostat and temperature sensor, they usually failed.

The exact same thing happenned to me. My thermostat had broken and when this happens it stays in the open position as a failsafe so the engine doesn't overheat. You will need to have it replaced.
