Hello,

just a bit of the backround, i had a leak from the power steering fluid.. After searching and looking i was dreading that it was the rack. However i took it to an audi mechanic and he said it isnt the rack , rather the power steering pressure hose that is near the steering rack, which is why it looks like that.

I have an 1996 audi a4 quattro, and am looking at alternatives to the 275 they are trying to charge me from the dealers.

I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or knew of a way to find the part number?

Also, has anyone had this issue, and if you did, could you fix the problem yourself or did you need a mechanic. If you needed a mechanic how much was the total.

I would go to the dealer's parts desk, and ask them about the hose and tell them where it is located. Try to define in the pictures at the dealer what the hose is that is near the stearing rack or get your self a Bently Manual. Thats all the help I can give

 

try to find a hydraulic repair garage for commercial vehicles that make custom hoses... you won't pay more than $100 for it, provided you know exactly what it looks like and what fittings it needs...

 

i was trying to do that as i had read that other people had done that, however i would need the actual hose out of the car and i am going to get a mechanic to do the job as i dont have a garage or anywhere to do it.

if i could even find a part number it would help with seeing where i could get the best price as there were some on ebay but i dont know if these hoses are the pressure hoses or not:

any help would be greatly appreciated as these hoses are a lot cheaper than the dealerships...
