You all make me laugh. Go buy a Honda civic and stop complaining. I drive a S4 with V8 4.2 and love it.....bad gas mileage and all.

Meh. If I had bought a V8, I wouldn't be complaining. I bought a 1.8 4-cylinder. For some reason, I expected it to get better mileage than my Caddy's 3.6 6-cylinder.

Have your 1.8T checked by some one who knows what they are looking at. There are many components to the PCV assembly that fail with higher mileage that can cause the engine to "dump fuel" causing run rich and poor mileage.

haha. So true. I would have bought an used S4 if I didn't already have a motorcycle. Having two fast vehicles would get my license taken away in a hurry!

2. Write down number of kms from your trip counter and then reset it, KMS
3. Calculate CONSUMPTION = LITERS/(KMS/100)
4. Reset your Average gas consumption counter on the dash screen, just to compare with this calculation, mine is always very close to calculated value.

My last example:
I filled it up with 50.1 liters after 491 km so
Consumption = 50.1/4.91 = 10.2 lit/100 kms

All other ways (dash avg. consumption or kilometers left ) are not going to give you correct number.

I do this every single fill-up and it's a good indicator of potential troubles, of course, it also depends on your driving style, city/hwy ratio etc...

Yes this is what I do too, I have a logbook and record every fill-up.
I was asking about the ppl who are saying I get X km's per tank, which is kinda meaningless, especially since different models/years have diff. size tanks.

I've been doing this since I got my 03 3.0( 2 years ago)...I usually average 10l/100km summer months..& 11-11.5 during the winter months..to me I think this is pretty good for this type of car...I do know that if I'm in stop & go traffic on the 401( which is rare for me) I'm prob close to 13-14..as our cars suck up that gas from a stand still!!!

Hi TML, just curious. When you are at a street light and you take off, what does your fuel gage read? Mine goes up to 40.8/100 and then settles down to normal

I am wondering if my car is dumping gas when I start off from a stand still.

Thanks!

yeah my 02 a4 3.0 does the same thing if i really floor it seen it up at the 50s
not 100%sure but i think i read some where it recalculates your avg every 20 meters

on a run from calgary to penticton i avg 8.2 think thats pretty good for a 3.0 v6 in a heavy car

8.2 is pretty good for a V6. When I had my 2.8L Cadillac CTS it would do 8L per 100k.

When I drove my Audi 1.8T home from Calgary I was getting 5.5L per 100k. That is almost as good as my motorcycle!

well 40 sounds high...unless your flooring it...with average acceleration I'm about 29-33.
