First Road Trip

First Road Trip
Greetings fellow Community,
I came back yesterday from my first road trip with my A4. Drove from Victoria to the Shuswap and back again, about 1500 kilometres including driving within our destination. Held up nicely and we only stopped twice due to car related problems.
On the way there, the check engine light came on and one of the vacuum hoses leading to the block was torn. Replaced this as soon as we got to our destination. Noticed a slite lack in power.
On the way back the check engine light came on again, but no lack in power.
There seems to be no real problem that we can find. Going to take it to the shop on Wednesday.
Any ideas on what it could be?
Thanks,
Nick

Re: First Road Trip
Careful with the vacuum line. I recently went on a road trip 3 weeks ago and my line bust open and because there was a 1 1/2" splice I couldn't drive it, had to get it towed. Turns out the timing belt slipped up and my pistons hit my valves and blew the engine and overheated. Currently fixing it, back up and running but the engine fan doesnt come on to cool it. So it's gonna overheat again

Re: First Road Trip
You need to know the code that is being thrown in order to know where to start looking. FWIW, the early-to-mid 2000s 1.8Ts are a vacuum system nightmare - convoluted systems of crappy materials that degrade considerably after 5 or so years. It is very common to have multiple vacuum/PVC leaks on an early 2000s 1.8T vehicle.
