Faulty ABS and Winter
Hey Guys,
I know this topic has been covered a lot but wanted to get some fresh perspective here.
I started getting the wretched ABS + Blinking Parking break light on my dash, which used to come on and go and now its permanent.
My question is, how much should I concern my self with the ABS being disengaged during winter driving ? I have four winter tires on my A4 already.
My mechanic has quoted me 550 for parts and labor to get the ABS module replaced with a re-manufactured one. Do you guys think its a fair price ?

I'm not sure about the price but I think it is best if you get the car fixed. Winter driving gets scary in times even with winter tires. If the car wasn't equipped with ABS to start off with, then it'd be a different story, but since you have ABS I suggest that you get it fixed just in case when it comes to risky situations.

For me ABS is not good in winter. Longer braking distance. For my girl friend it's different, she need ABS.
Where is this module, I want to disconnect it. If your ABS is no longer working, are you loosing traction control?

The price is right.
Are you sure that you need the module? In my case this year it was wet dirty connector in the engine compartment by the windshield washer tank. Try to clean and dry it first. Mine came to normal after doing this.

If you are going to leave the ABS in a disabled state winter is one of the better times to do it if you know how to brake. ABS was designed to allow you to brake hard and turn but in ice and snow it can actually increase stopping distances. In snow it is actually good to have show build up in front of the tires to help slow the car down and locking a wheel here or there won't hurt. ABS is also used with the traction control and stability control so if you don't have one you won't have the others.

I have an A4 with the lights on the same way...
No ABS and no Traction Contol at this point...
I bought a spare module from a guy and I am going to try changing it (or maybe cleaning the one thats there)...
Its preference, but if you know what you are doing then ABS is not critical... for some its needed.
