Engine whine. Sounds like my V6 is supercharged
To me it sounda like a tensioner to me. I have had alternators go before, and they do not sound like that. An alternator sounds very scratchy, and squilley like a bad belt, which is caused by the copper bushings totally gone and running metal on metal in the alternator. I bet its the Belt tensioner with dry bearings.
Jordon, alternators do not have clutches. only thing on a belt system with a clutch is the ac compressor.
EDIT - I should have read page 2. I ws thinking steering pump too janz, but they get a more chirpy sound with in a whine, and more under load. A ford is a perfect example of that sound
Cheers.
