So, not a DIY job then for a guy with a socket set and a pair of pliers.

My rear right side area squeeks when I go over small bumps in the road. I don't hear it on large bumps, but definitely the smaller ones. I assume it's the same thing? Need to oil 'er up?

 

Here's my answer to your question and point of view about oil.

Oil and rubber don't mix well, even if the components were some type of neoprene, the oil does nothing but mask an issue that is beginning to fail.

Worst case is when the rubber has disengaged from the cylinder or sleeve that keeps the bushings intact. It's too late, the damage or wear can't be reversed. Follow the advice about testing the suspension on a drive on rack. Bounce, listen and feel for the noise. I use a Stethoscope to "listen" for noises. There are electronic versions available that work very well.

There are about 6000 codes on the sticker, but I eventually found 1BE. Whadya know...sports suspension.

 

Wow. Contacted the Audi dealer, they want $376 per shock. You guys weren't kidding when you said German parts are more expensive.

Best price I've seen online is $135 each from TireRack, but that's USD, so add another 20%. Any suggestions where to look?

 

Contact your local Euro repair facility. That facility may deal with a company called Auto-Camping. That company supplies OEM quality VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc. etc. etc. parts to the Euro repair facilities. Auto-Camping does not supply any parts to individuals.

My company also provides those parts but, this is the big BUT! There is no installed warranty unless installed by a certified repair facility. Only the parts have a manufacturer defect warranty. Any warranty issue goes directly to the company that provided the parts.

 

Found some rear shocks for $196 each at autopartsway.ca. It was about the only place I found that differentiated between regular and sport suspension, and were less than $300.

Even TireRack just sold one size of shock. Since the ride height is lowered by 20mm from stock, how could one size possibly fit all? I'm a little disappointed in them...I thought they were better than that.

 

I am wondering what the problem was as well.
