Default Bought My First Audi

Hi, I'm new to this site. I've always wanted an Audi A4 B5 and after getting an insurance quote for my motorcycle of $5k I went on ebay and within a few hours bought a 1996 2.8 Quattro with 170K on in (for $550!!).

So, I haven't even seen it in person yet and am picking it up this week. I know what you're thinking it's a time bomb. So I need some advice. It was owned by the original owner. No idea yet on maintenance history, but here's what I do know.

-The front subframe is rusty and needs to be replaced.
-Rear springs squeak
-ABS module needs replacing (could I just unplug the ABS fuse?)
-The owner said there was an oil leak and the oil pressure dropped and steering became heavy .This is what scared me the most. Why would engine oil pressure (if that's what he meant) drop and then steering malfunctions?

I need some input thanks. I also noticed that this part of the forum is really dead compared to before.... damn shame.

I do love this forum but indeed you can also check audizine
First try to get as much infos as possible from the owner, get all records if possible and find a local independent Audi mechanic as soon as possible...since he will become your friend and have a considerable budget ready to be spent making sure she is running fine!
Ask if the timing belt/tensioners/water pump were replaced and how long ago...

You can also consider purchasing parts online Auto Parts in Canada! - Canada Auto Parts Online and save on parts as youll pay labor only.

Hey guys an update.

I got the car on jacks and found that both front springs are broken. I've been looking for a few hours for a good place in Canada that sells parts but can't really find any. I just need 2 new front springs and front subframe.

Also the steering leak has been found. A high pressure line behind the front drivers side wheel was spraying oil out directly onto the steering rack boot. It's like a corkscrew shaped line anyone know what I'm talking about? Need to find that part.

Seems like I can help you with the abs. Generally they are stupid expensive to replace but pretty cheap to fix/rebuild. CHEAP Bosch 5.3 ABS REPAIR VW Passat Audi A4 A6 A8 S4 opens the module up and make it as good as new for about 100 bucks. Compared to almost $1000 for a new one.

^wish we had someone here locally.

I know Audi Cluster Repair had it listed in their website, but I dont think they went through with the service.

Great place to get those LCD repaired though for cheap.
