2001 A4 locking troubles
Hi,
I have just bought a used 2001 1.8 A4 and of course there are some issues ....
I have just 1 keyfob and it will not lock the car when pressed. It will however unlock the car. the inside button will not lock the drivers door but locks the rest (the drivers lock peg stays up, but rest go down). The key will manually lock the door.
Another problem possibly linked to the first is that the drivers door will not release and open unless handle is used twice (first pull releases door but cannot open, second allows it to open).
Any help with either problem would be very much appreciated.
thnks.

This is how it is supposed to work, at least on my '03 A4. The first pull unlocks the door and the second opens it.
Plankspanker is right.
B5 door locks are vacuum operated. Sound like you have either a mechanical problem within the driver door lock assembly or there is a vacuum leak in the line connected to the driver door lock.
VAG scan the car for codes. If there is a door locking system vacuum leak, it should be reported as vacuum pump run time exceeded, etc. If it's a cracked line from wear and tear, it's likely at the driver door post flex point. The line is coupled (so it can be replaced if needed) as it passes thru the driver side A-Pillar wiring harness area, beside your left foot when sitting in driver seat.
Also sounds like you have a failed lock button on your key fob. Try taking fob apart and cleaning it / replace battery.

Thanks for the info..... I will look into it (I guess I will need to get the VAG Stuff). For clarification... the drivers door requires 2 pulls of the handle even though it is unlocked already?
Rob
here is another weird one that i have happening on my A4 right now. When i lock the car the alarm starts beeping. I have to unlock and lock my car a bunch of times for the alarm to stop. Anyone know what may be causing this?
Hi,
All the problems have been fixed with the new remotes... though I'm not sure what they would have to do with the latch.
thanks for all your comments and suggestions.
