All things being equal (year, price, mileage, general shape), which is a better bet in a B5 A4? 1.8T or 2.8?

 

no modes for the 2.8 but it will be quieter and smoother. with a few mods the 1.8 will be faster

 

I'd go with the 1.8T Quattro but only if it's manual, if auto go with 2.8l

-more mods/upgrades for the turbo engine.
-will be faster (after mods)
-lighter
-less $$ for maintenance/parts
-more fun to drive as you get the turbo kick
-can be more fuel efficient
-cheaper insurance coverage

** Speaking from personal opinion as I too had this decision to make before I bought my 99.5 A4 1.8TQ ** and don't regret my decision, love my 1.8TQ

I'm pretty pumped...I've been looking for a decent example for a while. Most have either been driven pretty hard or not very well cared for. This one was a 2-owner vehicle that has been un-spoiled and very well looked after.
