2011 S4 with or without Navigation?

2011 S4 with or without Navigation?
Do you S4 owners have the advanced Nav MMI in your S4? Is it worth getting it or can one live without it? How often do you use it and what are the good/bad features that come with it?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Hello amkv28,
Although I am not an S4 owner, it would probably be best for you to take a new S4 for a spin at your local dealership. I have looked at many new cars and I find that the Nav system is very distracting. Althought I am quite young, I prefer cars with buttons.
It's all up to what you prefer, but it would be nice to have an opinion of a current S4 owner who's been driving it for a while.

I originally ordered the car w/o nav but added it about 2 weeks in, not necessarily for the nav but because the placement of the MMI controls on the console is much improved ergonomically over the dash location with no nav. As well, the screen is bigger and you get rear camera, always nice, and individual settings for ADS and B&O. That being said, it's a pretty hefty cost.

Also, it certainly helps with resale. I recommend it.

Re: 2011 S4 with or without Navigation?
I appreciate the comments. I am in a real dilemma. I ordered an S4 with B&O, Sport diff, s-tronic and skipped on the Nav b/c I couldn't justify the cost. The car is enroute from Halifax and do you think the dealer would swap my car for another car that has Nav and the other options I listed above. I know Toronto dealers have a few of these with Nav in stock. My only problem is I won't get the colours of interior and exterior I selected.
Give me your two cents...thanks again.

Your best bet is to call the Toronto dealers:
- Downtown Audi
- Midtown Audi
- Uptown Audi
- 'Ssuga Audi
Call them all up and see if anyone of them has the car you're looking for with the same colors + Navi. If one of them does, go over there and explain your situation. I don't see why they won't do a swap. I mean you'll be paying the difference anyways.
I picked mine up from Uptown Audi about 3 weeks a go.

None of the dealers were interested in the swap because it didn't have Nav. Oh wel, have to live with the choice I made. My issue was not having the mmi on the center console- not having nav didn't really bother me b/c I hardly would use it. Funny thing is the prestige model in the U.S. comes standard with nav which is suppose to be equilivent to our premium model.
I will just have to get use it the dash console.

Re: 2011 S4 with or without Navigation?
I didn't get the Nav or the side assist, and quite happy.
-already have a GPS
-neck works just fine for reversing
-tall, don't need tilting side-mirrors
-side assist just a scary concept - and there are drivers that
WILL get into the habit of not checking their blind spot. Always cautious around other S4s lol.
-Didn't need HomeLink - already have an opener and the fob button works just fine
I think it's great for those that want or need all the bells and whistles, but IMO it's just more things that'll eventually break. Savings went (or going) into mods instead.

When I was ordering the car, I just could not bring myself to paying $3,200 for this. I already have NAV in my wife's minivan which we use for long haul road trips.
I never use the back up camera in the minivan because I find it's never accurate except for that annoying beeping sound.
I laughed your comment about the neck works fine for reversing. LOL- good one and no offence to the current nav owners.
Originally, my logic for not getting NAV was to put the money to something that I will use everyday- STASIS ECU upgrade and APR RSC Exhaust.
How do you find the MMI on the dash console?
Thanks!

Chestock, I take great comfort reading your email. I thought I was the only one regretting not getting this option.

Heh, I meant no offence either, and I agree that while back-up cameras and side "assist" are neat concepts, you'll never see that kid running towards the rear of your reversing vehicle from off to the side when you're staring at a camera in the center console. And trust it? Never. People being people will just start relying on it though, and I see tragedy written all over that.
My father-in-law has the backup cam in his Alphard (which is a huge van, and yep, beep-beep-beep) on an 9-inch HD display, and I could justify it in there, but for a car? What would be a bit more practical would be the cheesy LEDs that MB uses that light up progressively as you get closer to say, a wall. Audi's too high-tech for that though
Sure, the MMI isn't the fancy blue colour, it's more bronze, green and red, but bfd IMO. That's the only difference - you won't even notice. It's function is great - the same as the enhanced MMI. And I actually find it more comfortable (again, being tall) to have the control **** on the center dash console than down on the trans console.
I'd say your logic is sound. You'll enjoy your mods more than you would NAV - oh, and your colour choices too!!!!! Congrats on your car!
