2010 A3 TDI Engine Noise
Hi everyone,
I'm a new Audi owner. Purchased this 2010 Audi A3 TDI (automatic) with 85,000 km on it. It recently started making a clunking noise from the engine bay. You can listen to it in this video I posted:
<iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/z-nY9-xMeAI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
It only occurs while the engine is cold, and is gone after 5-8 minutes.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Andrew

Re: 2010 A3 TDI Engine Noise
I made another video that I feel showcases the sound a bit better. You can find it here:
I did go to an Audi dealership to see if they could figure it out. They were unable to and said it would require a ticket to be opened with Audi and that the car would have to remain with them for a couple days. I did not do this, but maybe I'll have to if I can't at least narrow it down.
If anyone has any ideas as to what it could be it would be greatly helpful.
Thanks,
Andrew

Re: 2010 A3 TDI Engine Noise
Definitely it's DMF.
Mine died at 160,000km and unlike the other failed DMF, mine has totally stripped out inner threads.
See the attached picture with inner thread totally got stripped
Cost almost C$2,000 ($900 part + labour) but if you have DMF handy with you, you can shop around for cheaper labour.
In US you can get this (DMF 126) at around U$300.
Good luck!
