Default Oil changing question?

Hey everyone,

I have just bought an 06 audi a3 2.0t with 35k and i was talking to a buddy of mine, he said that the intervals for oil changes (12k) i believe is way to long, if thats the case how often do you change your oil? also what type of oil are you guys using? what the manual says or something different?

The intervals are actually 15000 km. I follow them, but you have to make sure you use an Audi approved oil - look for the VW 502.00 certification.

If you want to maximize your engine's trouble-free life, it's worth it to switch to full synthetic oil and change about twice as frequently, particularly if you drive hard with lots of "pedal to the metal". Drive like "Mr Magoo", never getting past 1/2 throttle and you can probably get away with less frequent is changes. YMMV.
Also consider doing an engine rinse treatment once a year to clean out any sludge and completely remove all the old oil.

i've just hit 1600km (break-in period according to the manual) and when i tried to get an oil-change (from a local audi/vw shop, not from the dealer), the mechanic said i should wait until 7200km because i'm basically wasting good oil. not to mention, audi puts additives in the original oil for the break-in period.

however, my buddies are recommending i should change the oil now to "clean" the engine. another friend recommends doing it at 3000km.

i can't seem to get a consistent answer.
