I think that it's on the 32pin connector (I bought it for the AUX plug). You will need to connect the wire on the pin... I don't know where. Check on google to find a DIY about it.

GPS*SYSTEM is a good and honnest ebay seller. And, he have the new DVD USA/CAN Map (2011-12). Ask to have it.

If you have other question, pm me.

Hi Coolmo

Have you gone ahead with the installation or ordering the unit from E-bay. I am going to order it as well, I was just wonderig if you want to bring both cars to a shop and maybe get a deal. What do you think?

I have installed it myself.
The unit came in pretty fast, with good packaging. in a perfect condition and I am loving it so far.

It's not that hard to install, however, you will need some time if you are first timer.

The only couple issues I am having, the place of GPS antenna being inside of dash, getting weak signal (but working perfectly fine on the ground level, just not working well underground)

and, I need Vag-Com change in order to get my aux in working properly.

If you find a shop who can connect the GPS antenna to sharks fin, and vag-com fixes, I will go with you for sure.
Let me know.

Hi Ryan

Did you get your unit from gps*systems? Is it a new used or second hand? Ok the website says USED, but what is the condition that you got yours?
All that Vag-Com sounds like Chinese to me (i am not really car savvy) so I will look for a shop here in Toronto that can solve those issues. (the ones you mentioned). Whats is a reasonable price to pay ?
I also emailed Four Circle - he seems to know what he is doing- for help with the installation , I am not sure where in Canada he lives - but I havent heard from him yet.

any issues with the blueu tooth, does it work the same way as with the Audi Concert system

thanks for the info

Edward

Vag-Com is not chinese, it's the cable kit that you can change the code for the radio unit, clusters, etc. You will find tons of info throughout the forums. The proper wording is VCDS and ross-tech is the most popular ones but pricey.

I ordered from same seller from GPS*system and it listed as used, but it looks like new.

everything works perfectly. I get all map direction from clusters, etc.

let me know if you find a price.

Re: DIY: Concert 3 to RNS-E Retrofit - 2012 Audi A3

Thx Coolmo for the answer... My answer will be the same.

For Vag-Com, go to an Audi or VW Specialist Repair Shop. They will have the Ross-Tech wire and software to do it. They have Audi Forom user's refferrals here: https://www.audiforum.ca/eastern-canada-discussion-48/audi-repair-shops-referrals-18979/

With GPS*System seller, the radio will be programmed for your A3, but not the computer inside the car.

Anyone who has installed new RNS-E to their audi, I have a question for you.

How do I make my music either mute or turn down the volume automatically while naviation talks for direction?

is it even possible?

Thanks!

Hi,

I just bought the same radio, but 192 model.

It is written that this is plug and play... do I need to buy the 32-pin connector?

If yes, what is the utility of this?

1. I bought my RNS-E on eBay. I recommend my eBay seller. Everything is sent from Europe, but the RNS-E was programming for North America. Obviously, with the DVD North America maps , Fakra GPS antenna and remove keys. Very friendly, responds quickly to emails and shipping is very fast (USPS Express Air Service).

Seller:
gps*system

If you bought from European seller (like me), make sure that the RNS-E is programmed for North America (with the DVD maps). Otherwise, there are DIY for regrogramming the Firmware for North America, but I don't try it...

I paid 899.00 USD, shipping included, for the RNS-E 2th Gen (193).

2. I bought a 32-pin connector ( 1J0 972 977 G ) for less than 10 CAD to my Audi Dealer. This will allow the AUX plus under the armrests works with the new radio.

https://www.audiforum.ca/attachment....ine=1327176756

************

3. I remove the radio concert III with the 4 remove-keys provided with the purchase (eBay). Pretty simple to remove the radio from it's base. Then disconnect the Quadlock connector and FM antenna.

4. For the AUX connector. I remove the blue connector of the Quadlock connector. In the blue connector, I remove the wire B1, B3 and B7.

https://www.audiforum.ca/attachment....ine=1327176756
*I have not taken this picture. Taking on the Internet. *

Then, I connected the three wires on the 32 pin connector ( 1J0 972 977 G ).

B1 -----------> 22
B3 -----------> 21
B7 -----------> 06

5. Installing the Fakra GPS antenna. My choice, for a maximum reception (Number of satellites), was to install it directly in the center top of the dashboard (near the center speaker).

By cons, many people install it directly to the back of the radio, or behind the instrument cluster on top of the steering column, Any order up from under the dash as long as works if there is no metal above the antenna. But, I don't try it. I would the best reception spot.

https://www.audiforum.ca/attachment....ine=1327176756

The antenna was fixed with double sided tape. No need to remove the dashboard. The wire is inserted between the glass and the dash and slid to the fuse box near the door of condcteur. Then follows the wire under the steering column to the rear of the radio. To do this, I removed the plastic panel under the steering column.

6. Connecting the RNS-E. Very simple. Connect the Quadlock connector, the connector pin 32, the FM antenna and the GPS antenna.

:shock:Don't replace completly the radio in the hole. You have to do some VAG-COM programming. After, it is good to do some checking (PIN Code, AUX Plug, GPS Nav Reception, ...) before.

NEXT STEP, VAG-COM

Has anyone managed to get SDS to work on the RNS-E? If so, can you point to a guide?

Thanks!
