Does anyone have info on the torque split for the 2009 2.0T Quattro?

My bud got the same car & he's saying it's 40/60 split.
He notice a little difference compares to his older A4 (50/50 split).

If you are talking about the 2009 A4 then it is a 40/60 split front to back, using a Torsen differential. It was 50/50 in 2008 for the A4.

The A3 is a Haldex system which is actually 95/5 split front to back. It is the same on all the A3's (06-09)

This is actually an interesting tidbit of info... thanks Zac!! ...it's also one of the reasons I'm holding off on getting an A3 (for the moment) ...the other is the possible model revamp in 2011???

On the haldex system... is it the same as the VW 4motion?? and 95\5 is an odd split - is it any good at all, or just a cheap way to justify the quattro sticker?? Cheers

The Haldex system is shared by the A3, and the TT, it's the same as VW's 4motion. It is very quick to react and does give you 4 wheel drive when you need it. Coupled with the traction control and ESP it is extremely competent. Though the system is completely dependent upon some very hi-tech fluid that must be changed regularly. The 95/5 split is incidental as the drive shaft to the rear wheels is always spinning, but no traction is sent to the rear wheels until this fluid detects a load, stiffens ups, and more power is directed to the rear wheels. There are electronic controls too, it is quite complex and sophisticated to make it compact enough to fit into the small space of the TT and A3 Quattros, and the 4motion Golf.

To make things a bit more confusing, the Passat 4motion actually uses the same full time AWD system as an A4 Quattro whether it's the 50/50 or 60/40 version. So techincally it's a Passat Quattro

So, to be clear it would be more accurate if the Passat the A4, A6's etc were called Quattro , the full time AWD system. And the A3, TT and other VW's were called 4 motion. It's just that Audi owns the Quattro name and applies it to any of their full time or partial time AWD's.

So if you really want a true AWD system where 25% is directed to each wheel, most of the time, you have to get an earlier 50/50 split A4, S4, A6 etc. (Or a Subaru. Sorry but I have one of those too and it is great in the snow.)

So that must mean the the new A3 has switched from the Haldex to the Torsen system. Probably a good move.

what's your source for that statement? because according to the dealership as well as everything I have ever read about the 2009 A3 Quattro would very clearly and without any doubt indicate that it has a40/60 split biased to the rear wheel
