Q5 - Brake Noise

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
"like I said, find a nice quiet place or large parking lot. Run it hard and brake hard a few times. This takes the glaze off the pads and rotors and does not hurt anything. I was in the same boat until I burned in the brake. Yea 500000 car that squeals.. Pissed me off too but remember its an issue that can be cured without spending a dime"
Tried it this weekend - nothing changed.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Sorry - I tried to put in the link to the video but it didn't work - this is a recording of the noise as I pulled into the garage one evening last week.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Sorry to bring you bad news Jill, but your problem won't go away…. Not unless you change brake pads, and not for Audi OEM either - they will do just the same, as I have tried that approach only to be told by Audi dealer that new pads are a "little less squeaky". No amount of grease, compound or anything else applied will change it - tried that. Bedding them (sequence of hard brakes) helps only for couple days, if that.
I had my Q5 for 4 years and it sounded like sinking Titanic, I finally started laughing! I was pretty ridiculous! I went above and beyond to solve it, team from Audi Canada was called to my dealership for inspection - 2 dudes in black suits showed up (I called the "men in black"). Apparently they were last hope for resolution, but they politely blamed it on "characteristic of the car", as was my other big issue - howling noise - greatly discussed on this forum.
I ended up trading this car, and it's a pity - I really liked it. It's mind boggling why Audi had chosen those brake pads…. Don't they test them prior???
I have different car now, and it make no noise when braking whatsoever, none, zip. Braking power same as I had on Q5, so its a prove that pads can be both good and make no noise.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Thanks for the info! The Audi dealer called today and they are putting on new brake pads and replacing the rotors - but his comment "hopefully this will help for awhile" makes me suspicious. If the issue persists, I will be in the market for a new vehicle once spring rolls around. So I have to ask - did you purchase another Audi? If not, can you share what you purchased? I'd love to have a nice quiet ride for once (the Avalon I had before the Q5 was noisy as all get out ...).
I ended up with MKZ, nice ride, I like it. It's not perfect, but neither was Audi. Best part is - 4 years and replacement is coming…

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
Brakes on my Q5 squeak badly--annoying and embarassing! I was told it is just a function of the brake pad composition. Wouldn't this be an issue Audi should have addressed? This will be my last Audi--BMW, here I come.

Re: Q5 - Brake Noise
I find my brake noise comes and goes. I find it worse in cold weather. Frustrating for sure, but I would rather have a squeaky SQ5 than a boring X3.
