It's very annoying to other cars on the road (and yes cops do pull you over for that). It blinds the oncoming traffic and the few cars ahead of you. If you really want hid, then get some one-piece projector headlight housings off a 99-01 a4. They are not that expensive and after that you'll have perfectly legal and awesome headlights.
I do agree that HID's on halogen capsules tend to be annoying but I wouldn't go as far as saying that encasing an aftermarket HID kit in an eftermarket projector headlight housing "legal". Remember that non OEM headlights and HID's are not considered street legal. Although most of us get away with it!

No, those 1 piece won't fit without modifications to the body. The 2 piece "projector" headlights by Helix fits really well and in my opinion, looks pretty damn close to OEM. And best of all, NO MODIFICATIONS to anything! The Helix I got from a dealer in ebay. I think it came to roughly about CAN$225 after shipping and everything.

Are you referring to the BOW3 that DDM Tuning sells? IMO, you won't need one. I had fickering problems at first with my kit but after a few days it went away. I think I might've just lucked out or that I have a 55W unit but according to my mechanic, it is very rare to get the flickering when you have a good quality 55W HID kit.

Make sure to ask them to ship you the package WITH 55W bulbs! They have made the mistake of sending me 35W bulbs with the 55W kit in the past! It is also not true that 55W kits will "washout" the colours. Colours washing out is the result of using a 35W bulb with a 55W ballast. FYI!!! Matching bulb wattage with the appropriate ballast is very important as the life of the bulb depends on this.

Also, make sure they send you the bulbs with the Kelvin rating you specified. DDM Tuning had been known in the past to send a 4500k and marked them as 5000k or 6000k if you specified for an 8000k. I'm not saying that they scam anyone, I think the warehouse personnel are just not too "precise" when filling an order.

Please don't take this as an attack but your statement is totally incorrect. Once you modify your headlight even with an OEM unit and retrofit it with an HID kit, it's still deemed illegal. The HID kit is generally not intended for street use. I'm not sure if you meant replacing his headlights with the factory Xenons, those could be a bit pricey even when contemplating a set of used ones.

It really is fantastic pricing.... I intend to order some very soon. Anyone know if I will need to drill holes/modify the stock HL assemblies on my B6?

I checked my my old Hellas and it appears that drilling a 1" hole on the back cover will be needed.
