Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
ya mine goes on once in a while up to the half mark then drops back to the bottom. i got a mechanic to look at it and he says its a coolant leak from front timing cover gasket. big job too.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
This sensor usually tells the ECU what the engine temp is and adjusts the air/fuel ratio accordingly. Running the engine with a problem like this could result in other damage, like catalitic converter damage. The EFI has a safe zone that it defalts to when a sensor malfunctions, which can e an over-rich a/f ratio, the egine will still run but not properly!

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
Sounds more like the sensor! just go to a dealer and get them to do a scan. If that's what it is they will replace it for free.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
Just go to the closest one I guess. It was an audi canada recall so as long as your car is canadian, just go in and tell them what your gauge is doing. They'll scan it and if they find a fault regarding you sensor they'll replace it for free.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
you may also want to get them to have a look at the timing belt cover and see if there IS a leak. There could still be a leak, but that wouldn't be related to your temp gauge bouncing around.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question
How many kms on your car? I think for the tb cover to leak coolant the coolant would have to leak from somewhere else first... water pump gasket? head gasket?
