Coolant Temp Sensor Question

Well when my Audi was in the shop getting some work done to it they said my Coolant Temp Sensor was faulty and they wanted $235 to fix it. I know it's a $20 part and not that hard to fix. I was wondering if the sensor would hurt my idling. Until the car is fully warmed up it idles a little rough while stopped. The gauge also fluctuates back and forth till fully warmned up.

So my question is if the sensor would mess with my idle or do i have further problems like a thermostat and whatnot

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question

As far as I know the minute i took the car from over the border (bought it in Seattle) the warranty is void.

I'm not worried about actually changing the sensor, I can easily do that, I'm just wondering if people have experienced this problem affecting the idle.

I'll look into Indy though for other things at later dates. So far i have gone to PG a few times.

jamieta...with your problem do you remember idling issues until the car was warmed up?

Thanks guys.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question

I had mine fixed a while ago, it was doing the same thing fluctuating the temp gauge back and forth. I didn't notice any change with the engine idle. I do get a little bit of vibration at idle though, its not enough to concern me so it might not be the same thing.

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question

I'm not sure, they did it in the shop under warranty and I didn't really ask any questions, I could try and dig up the receipt tonight

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question

no idle issues with mine car ran fine gauge would read normal up to 90 then drop back to zero, back to the middle then into the red then to zero again

no issues with the idle or hesitation though

Re: Coolant Temp Sensor Question

that is what i was scared of

it will idle around 900 but then drop to 750 and then back up. it's brief but still somewhat scary
