Congrats on car, it looks stunning!
Thanks! Im really excited about it.

The wife and I are doing a road trip in April and before this purchase, we were going to be taking her 2006 Subaru Impreza Wagon... so slow, but more reliable and comfortable than my old Subaru. Now its a no-brainer... took her on the test drive yesterday and she was sold before I was.

Just out of curiosity... how much is a windshield replacement on a B8 S4? Im setting up my insurance and trying to figure out if its worth it to add on.

On the Subaru it wasn't... but with our rock-filled roads... maybe it is on the Audi.

New pickup date for the car is either Wednesday or Thursday. Depends on whether the detailers can get it finished on Wednesday.

I had mine changed on my 2006 S4 Cabriolet for $250 but the fitting was not the same as the original one. There was a little wind noise after the change.
Count around $800 for an OEM one. (does not have to be done at the Audi dealer)

I was just quoted $350 but that's for no-name glass. Interesting. Glass coverage is $180 with a $50 deductible.

Make sure that there is no limit on the number of claims you can make in a year!! My insurance company doesn't offer glass coverage, but I wish it did since I go through quite a few windshields. I've already had to fix 6 chips since August.

I know for a fact the OEM glass is significantly more expensive, but if you break a lot of windows I personally don't think it's worth the cost. I feel if the aftermarket glass wasn't safe it wouldn't be allowed into millions of vehicles across Canada.

Great. Thanks for the info guys.

Luc, do your 19x9.5 ET 42 wheels rub at all? I see you're on the H&R OE springs but I assume if you don't rub on those, I wont rub on stock suspension. Im trying to get an idea of what will and wont rub. I know it depends on tire, camber, etc, but just trying to get an idea. I'd like to order a set of summer rims for the car relatively soon and need to figure out the size. I like relatively flush rims, little-to-no tire stretch.

Also, the H&R OE springs... hows the ride compared to the stock springs? I like the drop and I love the ride of the S4, so if it doesn't change it that much, I might be persuaded sometime in the future...

... and I promised the wife no mods for a while.

I honestly bought the rims 3 months ago because I got a really good deal from OEMConcept. I haven't been able to put them on yet since there is still tons of ice and snow out. I've done a lot of research and i'm sure they won't rub.

The stock rims are 19x8.5" ET 43 and give you a lot of room to play with. The stock 255 Conti DW tire is square on the 8.5" rim so you have a substantial sidewall. The day after I picked up my car I took it to get springs installed with my sway bars and end links. I also wanted 10mm spacers on all corners, but they only had 15mm spacers at the time. I had them install them anyway and only ever rubbed on one trip when I was driving hard with 4 people in the car. I'm sure if I took it to a track I would have rubbed a lot.

Here is 15mm Spacers on the stock peelers lowered on OE Springs.

Some tires run wider even though they are 255 (Ex Pilot Super Sports), so you need to make sure of the measurements on the tires even if you hear that a certain width/ET will fit. I know it's not your first rodeo but it's good to know.

I'm running the stock Conti DW's on the AluFelgen rims and they do have a slight stretch to them, but I like the look. When those tires are done I may go with 265's, but we will see. With the rim being an inch wider, and have 1mm more aggressive offset they sit a total of 13.7mm wider than stock. Which is 1.3mm narrower than the pictures above. Since the sidewall is stretched vs the 255 on the 8.5" I think I would have to push the car very hard to have any rubbing.

If you want to go with an 8.5" rim with 255 to keep it square I would say that an ET 33-35 would be prime. Any more aggressive and you would potentially rub in certain situations. With the 15mm spacers mine was technically ET 28 which is too crazy. 10mm spacers would be ideal. If you don't mind a little stretch on the tire and went with a 9.5" rim ET 40 would be the most aggressive I would go, ET 45 would be least.

As for the springs I really like them. They are a bit bouncier than the stock springs but the car looks 2x better. As I said before I had them installed at the same time as the sway bars so can't really comment on body roll from each mod, but overall my handling feels perfect. It stays nice and flat on any corner i've ever taken. I still need to do the AluKruez upgrade, but I will wait for a bit until I'm living in Calgary and driving my car more.

The springs drop the car about 1.2" which is the least drop out of any of the springs available on the market for this car. The H&R Sports are 1.5" and the Super Sports are around 1.75-2.00" which is a bit much for where I currently live.

Thanks for the information Luc! That really helps.

I am thinking about a set of Avant Garde M220's for now, just as an intermediate summer wheel that I can use for one summer with my old summer tires that would tide me over until I choose my real set. We'll see though. Plenty of nice options.

As far as the springs go, I think I'll wait until I've driven the car a fair bit before modifying anything suspension-wise. Im looking forward to it being nice and stock and comfy. It'll never see the track so I am not worried about that much performance. I've got a 1975 BMW race car that I've got for that.

Im pretty excited. Picking up the car tonight

Alright.

Two questions already.

1) The brakes were apparently done at Audi. When cold, they squeal worse than my race pads. After they warm up a bit, it goes away. They haven't been bedded in yet, so that's first on my list this weekend when I can find a dry stretch of road. Is this common with Audi?

2) Last night, just while we were parking downtown, it gave me the warning that the front right turn signal bulb was out. When we got back into the car after dinner, the warning was gone and the bulb was ok (I checked and all three were working). Then, mid-way through the drive home, I got the warning again and the signal wasn't working. So... how easy is it to replace the turn signal in the headlight?

Congrats on the car. I really like the flat bottom steering and will be looking in to getting one. Thanks for posting the link. I hear the squeaks as well when they are cold and apparently my Audi adviser told me that OEM always tend to have the issue and my breaks aren't new. Maybe going ceramic pads will fix the problem?
